Associate Professor Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Dipl ECVO, PhD, DVM
Dra Leiva obtained the title of Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1998. After her internship in small animal medicine and surgery, she completed the European residency in Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology at the UAB Veterinary Clinical Hospital Foundation.
In October 2005 she received the European Diploma of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ECVO) and joined the Ophthalmology Service of the Veterinary Clinical Hospital Foundation, where she has worked since then. In July 2008 she obtained her PhD degree with a thesis on “Ocular Findings in Neonatal Septic Foals”.
She has worked actively for the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, as a member of the Residency Committee, a member of the Review Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. She has been founding President of the AVEPA Ophthalmology Specialty Group from 2013-2017, President and founding member of the Spanish Panel on Hereditary Eye Diseases and has been training ECVO residents for more than 11 years. She is the author of more than sixty national and international publications and several chapters of books of recognized international prestige, she is a recognized speaker inside and outside our borders.
Her areas of interest are corneal surgery and diseases, ophthalmology in foals and ocular signs induced by infectious diseases. Currently, she works as an Ophthalmologist at the Veterinary Clinical Hospital Foundation, and as an associate professor in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the UAB.

He has years of experience in the profession and extensive training in different fields of the specialty, specializing in pediatric maxillofacial surgery, craniofacial malformations, cleft lip and palate, and orthognathic surgery.
Specialist in orthognathic surgery, pediatric maxillofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, and planning and 3D printing. Since 2015 has directed the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital.
Graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona, specialized in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital and furthered his training in reference centers in the United States, Europe or Asia. Dr Candela Cantó is a recognized specialist in Pediatric Neurosurgery who has an excellent reputation in the surgical treatment of epilepsy in children. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, he specialized in Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has specialized in surgery for epilepsy and movement disorders. He received his doctorate from the University of Barcelona with the thesis “Functional Pediatric Neurosurgery assisted by the Neuromate Robotic Arm with Cum Laude qualification”. He is also a recognized expert in the treatment of spina bifida, craniosynostosis, chiari malformation and neuroendoscopy.
After his training at Hospital Clínic, Dr. Candela has focused his care activity at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, combining it with international training at the Center Hospitalier Universitarire in Grenoble (France), Evangelical Hospital Bethel in Bielefeld (Germany), Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California, and Hospedale dei Bambini Vittore Buzzi in Milan and Bambino Gesù in Rome, Italy. He attends to his private patients at the Institut Pediàtric Sant Joan de Déu, Clínica Corachan and Paido-Dex (Hospital Dexeus) and pediatric neurosurgical care at Hospital de Barcelona. Dr. Lluís Peri has a degree in Medicine from the University of Barcelona and is a specialist in Urology from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. Defense of the doctoral thesis “Development of transvaginal hybrid NOTES nephrectomy” in 2016.
He has completed his training at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Prof. C. Chapple). He currently holds the position of Head of the Functional and Reconstructive Urology Section at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. His areas of interest are urologic reconstructive and urethral surgery, functional and prolapse surgery, robotic surgery, and kidney transplantation. He is coordinator and professor of the Master’s Degree in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells.
He regularly participates as a teacher in master’s degrees and courses on renal transplantation and reconstructive and functional urological pathology. He is coordinator of the Functional and Reconstructive Urology Section of the Catalan Society of Urology, as well as a member of SINUG, EAU Section of Transplantation and the Renal Transplantation and Female, Functional and Urodynamic Urology working groups of the Spanish Society of Urology.
